We haul from quarries working limestone, coquina and shell rock out of the ground here, to jobs from the Gulf Coast, the Atlantic coast and the Panhandle. Nearly all crushed stone comes from a small number of South Florida and central limestone quarries, so haul distance drives price sharply in the Panhandle.
Most of what leaves our yards goes into limerock base pads, shell driveways and French drains through sand. Sand drains almost too well and offers little bearing, so the base course is doing structural work rather than frost protection. High water table in much of the state limits how deep an excavation is worth going. Frost goes to about 0 inches in Florida, so plan base depth around it.
