Florida Rock Supply handles gravel and aggregate delivery in Ocala, FL for two kinds of buyers: contractors building drives, pads and drainage, and homeowners finishing a path or a bed. Limerock base covers the heavy work, and the fines and screenings we stock cover the walking surfaces. Sandy ground over limestone means you need to plan for water movement, not frost.

Materials for Ocala Projects

On an Ocala path or walkway, the surface layer is where most problems show up. Too coarse and the stone rolls underfoot; too fine and it turns to paste after a storm. Limestone screenings are the workhorse here. They are crushed limestone fines that compact into a firm, walkable crust, and they bed pavers and flagstone as well. Use Stone Screenings for a path surface or a paver base.

For a looser, decorative path, Natural Pea Gravel is the other common choice. The rounded stone drains fast and stays put under a border. It suits beds, borders and drainage at downspouts, and it works as play sand under a swing set. Order 3/8" Natural Pea Gravel when the path runs between planting beds.

Where a path meets a driveway, the surface has to change. Limerock base is the standard Florida base rock, a crushed limestone graded down to fines that compacts hard over sand. It carries the load under a drive, a shed pad or a private road. See Limerock Base for that transition.

Drainage under and beside a path needs washed stone that will not pack tight. #57 stone is the usual pick for French drains and downspout runs, and 3/8 inch crushed stone finishes the top of a compacted base. Our #57 Limestone and 3/8" Crushed Stone both fit that work.

Ground and Conditions in Ocala

The failure mode on a thin base here is a soft, rutted drive after a wet week. Sandy soils sit over limestone that lies at or close to the surface across much of this zone, and on higher ground rain drains straight down through sand and porous rock instead of running off. Put too little base down and traffic punches through to the sand underneath.

The fix is depth and compaction. Limerock base needs to go down in lifts and be compacted while it is still damp, so the fines bind and the surface locks. A thinner layer is fine for a path, but a drive that takes a truck needs more, and the low, flat spots need a drainage layer of washed stone beside them.

Work runs year round in Marion County. Summer afternoon thunderstorms drop water fast, and hurricane season runs June through November, so exposed sand washes off bare ground into low spots. Heavy rain or a long dry spell can open a depression that undermines a pad or a drive. Compacted limerock base and a proper drainage edge are what keep that from turning into a repair.

Delivery to Ocala and the Surrounding Area

Order online, and the first decision is whether to buy by the ton or by the cubic yard. Stone, gravel and sand are usually sold by the ton, while soil, fill and mulch are easier to think about by the yard. If you know the area and the depth you want, either figure gets you the same load.

Estimate the volume first: length times width times depth, all in the same unit. Then convert to tons using the density of the material you picked. Screened topsoil and garden soil are lighter per yard than limerock base, so two loads of the same size will not weigh the same.

Bulk delivery drops the load where the truck can reach, so point out the spot when you order. We deliver across Ocala and Marion County, including Belleview, Silver Springs, Dunnellon, Ocklawaha and Reddick.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about gravel and aggregate delivery in Ocala, FL

What should I have ready when the truck arrives?

Have the drop spot clear and firm enough to hold the load, with no overhead branches or wires in the way. Mark where you want the pile so it lands where you need it, not where it is easy to dump. If the ground is soft sand, put down a board or two for the truck to roll on.

What is the best base under pavers in Ocala?

Limerock base is the standard choice for the structural layer, compacted in lifts over the sand. Limestone screenings go on top as the bedding layer, about an inch deep, screeded flat before the pavers go down. Both are crushed limestone, so they bind and hold better than a rounded stone would.

Where will the material be placed?

Wherever you tell us, as long as the truck can safely reach it. Mark the spot before the delivery and someone should be on site to point the driver to it. If nobody can be there, leave clear instructions when you order and we will follow them.
